At Astrato, we’re madly in love with data, and for a good reason. Data plays an increasingly intrinsic role in our everyday lives, whether it’s watching a weather report (satellite data), streaming a popular song (live data) or presenting a report to your colleagues (data analytics); data makes discovering new ideas and ways of working possible. That’s why we’re so passionate about helping people understand data – we firmly believe that data can inform decision-making and drive innovation across all industries.

As experts in data visualization and Business Intelligence (BI), our platform offers an intuitive approach to data analytics that promotes buy-in from users of all skill and data literacy levels. So whether you’re an entry-level employee new to data analytics or a seasoned Business User with decades of experience, Astrato is the perfect partner for all your data needs.

In this article, we’ll discuss how your team can get started with Astrato. So join us as we reveal all you need to know to get up and running with our intuitive, user-friendly platform!

What do you need to get started?

Getting started with our Cloud-native BI and analytics solution is simple. To begin, all you need to do is choose from one of our three plans and sign up.

To help kick-start your data journey, we’ve also created a FREE “Build with the Best Experience,” which enables users to receive hands-on help and guidance from an experienced Astrato Solutions Consultant during a 14-day trial period.

As part of our introductory phase, we’ll schedule an initial call with you and your data team to identify a clear use case and discuss how we can connect your data cloud. Following the call, we’ll provide two weeks of design and development support before scheduling a second call to help you perfect your first data visualizations.

For businesses looking to create multiple user accounts, our Enterprise Plan also allows companies to use a centralized Identity Provider for managing their user accounts. In addition, enterprise users can make use of our Enterprise Authentication features to enjoy Single sign-on (SSO) support for Passthrough Authentication for Snowflake, Google Workspace, and Open ID Connect.

User management

Once you’ve created an account, you can begin assigning roles and managing users and teams from our Administration section.

Thankfully, with Astrato, there is no need to create multiple accounts for your teams. Instead, to add a new user or team to your account, simply click on the Invite Users button. Once the invited users have registered, they will be flagged as active members. Please see our dedicated guide to learn more about managing users and teams.

Collections, Data & Workbooks

Now that your account has been created and you have assigned roles to your team members, it’s time to address the most enjoyable and vital part of your analytics journey, the data.

You need to be aware of three data-related components of Astrato to get the most from our Cloud-based platform. The first is, of course, the data itself, with the other two being our workbook and collections features. below you’ll find a breakdown of each component in more detail.

Inputting your Data

Connecting your data to Astrato is a breeze. To begin, all you need to do is click Data from the sidebar, as illustrated below. Once you’ve done so, you’ll then be able to create a new data source connection or a new data view from an existing source.

Please note, if you don’t have the ability to connect your data source right away (for example, you work for a large company and need to wait for approval to deploy new solutions), you can still demo Astrato using test data. So, let us know if you would like to try out our platform, and we’ll help you get started with the test data sets you need.

Selecting data source in Astrato

To create a new data source, click on the Data Source tab and the New Data Source button to display a list of available data connections such as Google Sheets, Dremio Cloud or Snowflake etc.

Creating a Workbook

For those unfamiliar with the term, a workbook – much like a data dashboard – is a document that usually features a number of pages (sheets) containing data and various visualizations. A workbook is an essential part of data analysis as it allows a modern data team to create a variety of visualizations, such as line charts and pie charts, which can then be shared with Business Users and other relevant personnel.

Creating a workbook in Astrato is a stress-free and intuitive process. To begin, all you need to do is open the Workbooks page as shown below and click the Create a Workbook button on the right corner of your screen.

Create workbook button

Following this, you’ll need to add a new data source or import your existing data source before naming your workbook and editing the layout to suit your target audience’s needs. It’s important to note that the workbook is only as good as the data. As such, when designing a data app or compiling any sort of dashboard, we recommend that you follow our workbook performance checklist before publishing your dashboard.

For more information on all things workbook related, please see our dedicated Astrato Workbooks guide.

Creating a Collection

The Collections page is where you can manage all your published Astrato workbooks. This section is relatively straightforward and self-explanatory. Within this section, you’ll be able to “star” (bookmark) published workbooks for future reference and create new collections to organize any published workbooks.

Creating new collections allows you to organize your data visualizations into folders, making them easily identifiable. As more users and team members are invited to share your organization’s account, keeping your various workbooks organized in the collections menu becomes even more important. It can significantly help efficiency amongst your peers.
