Transforming a static dashboard into an interactive data app means that users are more empowered to do real-time data exploration, and less likely to experience data overload.
Astrato – a Cloud-native BI platform – allows the dashboard creator to build their own Action blocks, creating endless visualization possibilities for the user. Creating Actions is simple with the drag and drop interface: Drag and drop blocks from the catalog to create an Action. Each Action must have an input (trigger) and an outcome. Placing a condition between them is optional.
There are many, many combinations of triggers, logic, and outcomes. Here are a few basic examples to get your imagination started:
Navigation
Action Example: When button A is clicked, navigate to sheet A
Guide the user and make their dashboard experience streamlined by allowing them to navigate through buttons. Place a button with a relevant KPI or graph and take them to a sheet with more detailed information on that measure or specific analysis.
- In this example, there are three KPI’s, each with a different measure. When the user clicks on the button they will be sent to the relevant sheet.
- How it was made:
Filters
Action Example: When entering sheet B, clear previous filters and apply desired default filter
Each sheet in a workbook provides important information, and sometimes they require different filters. Users start on the home sheet, but will move to sheets A, B, and C. You can anticipate what they will need and guide them through.
- In this example, most users will want sheet B to have specific filters. Create an Action so any time someone enters sheet B the previous filters are cleared and new filters are automatically applied. The users can adjust the filters from the sheet if they need to, but this guided journey helps the user get to insight faster.
- How it was made:
Variables
Action Example: Toggle between chart types
This dashboard has a bar chart that shows total sales by category and product. But some users want access to a table view, or as a trend over time, or with a different chart type. Instead of crowding the dashboard, use Actions to switch between graphs. This gives the user control over what they see.
- In this example, a toggle is used to switch between the bar chart and the table.
- How it was made: 1. Create a table variable. Setting it to false means the table will be hidden when a user enters the sheet. 2. Place a toggle control and have it assigned to the table variable. 3. In the layers, assign the table’s view mode to the table variable.
The interactive nature of Astrato dashboards and the ability to customize your dashboard experience means you can focus on the insights that matter most. In a data-rich world, tools like Astrato are essential for businesses and individuals wanting a more meaningful and productive data analysis process.
